Vivo Nex A and Nex S Are the 2018 Smartphones Without a Notch Display Vivo Nex flagship phones that offer a Notch-less display along with a pop-up selfie camera

CHINESE SMARTPHONE maker Vivo, that recently launched their first in-display fingerprint smartphone in India, has announced another industry first innovation of 2018.

The company announced in China their two new flagship smartphones, the Nex A and the Nex S (Ultimate). Both these devices are notch-less wonders of 2018.

Most of the smartphones in 2018 have seen the notch on top of their 18:9 displays but these new phones offer a notch-less experience. Vivo’s new Nex A and Nex S (Ultimate) sport a big 6.59-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with 19.3:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2316×1080 pixels. Lack of a notch makes them have a  91.24% screen-to-body ratio.

So one would ask, where is the earpiece or the front camera? Well, the devices come with Screen SoundCasting technology in which the device vibrates the screen to offer bass and treble for clear sound.

As far as the front camera is concerned, it is encapsulated inside the body of the device and pops open whenever you feel like clicking a selfie.

The new smartphones from Vivo come in two variants, one powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 SoC clocked at 2.8GHz with Adreno 630 GPU  on the NEX S and the other with an Octa-Core Snapdragon 710 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz with Adreno 616 GPU  for the Nex A. The Nex S comes with 8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage and the Nex A comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

Just like the Vivo X21 that was launched in India, the Nex S comes with the in-display fingerprint sensor, while the Nex A comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Both devices pack in a 4000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging technology. The new flagship devices also come with Vivo’s own Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

The camera module on the devices come with a dual setup. There is a 12MP+5MP with dual-tone LED flash camera with a Sony IMX363 sensor and a 4-axis OIS. The 12MP sensor offers a f/1.8 aperture and the secondary 5MP camera comes with a f/2.4 aperture. Both the devices come with an 8MP front-facing pop-up camera with f/2.0 aperture.

The front camera raises automatically out of the phone as soon as you open the front camera from the camera app on the device.

For connectivity, the devices include Dual SIM, a 3.5mm audio jack, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS + GLONASS and a USB Type-C port.

Price and Availability

Both the devices will be available in China starting June 23. The India launch date is not announced yet but Indian consumers can expect these phones to come to India by end of July or early August 2018.

The Vivo Nex S 8GB RAM+128GB variant is priced at 4498 RMB that’s approximately Rs 47,500. The 8GB RAM+256GB variant costs 4998 RMB which converts to Rs 52,500. The Nex A with 6GB RAM+128GB will cost 3898 RMB which amounts to Rs 41,000 approximately.
