Honor Play with GPU Turbo Launched in India Starting at Rs 19,999 It comes with GPU Turbo and AI technology and has Huawei's flagship Kirin 970 AI processor


HONOR, a sub-brand of Huawei, has launched another smartphone after a gap of just fifteen days. The new phone is named Honor Play and is equipped with Huawei’s flagship Kirin 970 AI processor, with “Neural Processing Unit” (NPU) that specialises in the acceleration of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to perform AI tasks.

The Honor Play aims to set the benchmark for exceptional graphics and user experience with the ingenious GPU Turbo Technology that was also touched upon at the Honor 9N launch.

The Honor Play will be exclusively available on Amazon starting 6th August 2018 at a starting price of Rs 19,999. According to the company, the GPU Turbo on Honor Play is able to accelerate performance by optimizing the software and hardware resources. With the GPU Turbo, graphics processing efficiency is improved by up to 60 per cent while overall SoC power consumption is saved by 30 per cent. This is beneficial since graphically demanding operations typically consume battery quickly.

The launch of Honor Play marks the beginning of innovative technology with Kirin 970 and AI technology, making consumers shift from smartphones to “Intelligent phones.

The new Honor Play also integrates AI-enabled gaming with a 4D gaming experience that includes not only graphics and 3D audio effects, but AI vibration customised games and matched to in-game objects and scenarios.

The device is also equipped with 16MP+2MP Dual rear camera backed with AI technology. The “Smart technology” can auto-identify scene types and adjust the camera settings accordingly. Honor’s AI Camera technology can recognise 22 objects and 500+ scenarios in real time, and the AI motion detection makes snapshots easier with better stability.

The device also comes with 360-degree ultra face unlock where the front camera detects the user’s face instantly, whether you hold your phone in landscape, portrait or at any angle. For additional security, the company has also integrated a fingerprint sensor at the back of the device.  The Honor Play is available in two textured colours: Midnight Black and Navy Blue.

As for the display, the Honor Play is equipped with a 6.2-inch FullView HD + display with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The display also sports an iPhone X-like notch and offers an 89% screen-to-body ratio. The device is powered by a 3,750mAh battery and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system with an EMUI 8.2 bloatware on it.

The Honor Play is available at a price of Rs 19,999 for 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM variant and the 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM variant is available at a price of Rs 23,999.
