Japanese and Korean trendy street style is particularly popular amongst the hip and fashionable youngsters of India’s North-East. Some popular Instagrammers are even chronicling their sartorial style, blending ethnic chic with oriental fashion style.

“We look forward to introducing UNIQLO and our high quality, affordable LifeWear apparel in India, while at the same time contributing to the expansion of the Indian economy, said Tadashi Yanai, CEO of Fast Retailing Co. and the operator of the UNIQLO brand.

India’s booming retail market has caught the eye of some leading global fashion brands including Spain’s Zara, Sweden’s H&M, America’s Forever 21 and Japan’s Muji opening stores in India to cater to India’s massive millennial population.

The craving for trendy clothing and accessories in India is fuelling its fashion retail business and is estimated at around $70 billion.

UNIQLO said it will soon begin “recruiting local talent as it prepares to open its store in the world’s fastest-growing major economy.”
