PRIME MINISTER Narendra Modi responded in words and in his signature style, taking on Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s charges against him and his party during a debate on the no-confidence motion in Parliament.

In his speech against the motion, PM Modi laid out the work done by his government and the various development schemes that have been introduced like the subsidized LED bulbs, Ayushman Bharat and Swachh Bharat.

He also took on Gandhi’s charge of secrecy around the Rafale deal saying “just because of one careless allegation in the House on Rafale, both the nations had to release statements. We should not indulge in such childish behaviour”.

PM Modi then turned to return a favor in kind, responding to Gandhi’s hug and his wink by saying “Today the nation is watching the play of eyes, how the eyes are being opened and how they are being shut”.

After Modi’s speech, the 12-hour debate ended with a vote which after the Congress President’s hug act had become a Modi Vs. Gandhi duel.

The government won the vote comfortably with 325 votes against the motion and 126 votes in favour. The final count was higher for the government as it got the support of the AIADMK party lawmakers.
