100-Rupee Note in Lavender to be Issued Soon The existing 100-rupee banknotes will continue to be legal tender

@otuslive

INDIA’s central bank will issue a new 100-rupee banknote soon, the Reserve Bank of India said in a statement, adding that the existing banknotes of the same denomination will continue to be legal tender.

The new notes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series will be in Lavender and bearing the signature of RBI Governor Urjit Patel.

The note will have geometric patterns complementing the colour scheme and also have a motif of “RANI KI VAV”, a historic stepwell in Gujarat, on the reverse showcasing India’s cultural heritage.

The new 100-rupee note will be gradually introduced via banks and ATMs and printing of the notes have already begun.

The new 100-rupee note follows the introduction of the 2000-rupee note and the 500-rupee note after demonetisation in November 2016.

As part of the demonetisation exercise, the central bank had scrapped the 1000-rupee note and replaced the invalidated 500-rupee note with new notes. It had also introduced a 200-rupee note in August last year.
