Monsoon Rains to Hit Kerala on May 29 India is largely dependent on the monsoon rains to water its farms and replenish its reservoirs

THE ANNUAL monsoon rains are likely to arrive over Kerala on May 29, India’s Meteorological Department said in a statement.

India is largely dependent on the monsoon rains to water its farms and replenish its reservoirs for irrigation, drinking water, and industrial use through the year. An annual phenomenon that is the lifeline of a $2 trillion economy and a mood booster for its 1.3 billion people.

“The southwest monsoon is expected to set in over Kerala on 29th May 2018 with a model error of ± 4 days,” said the statement, setting in motion a series of events beginning with pre-monsoon showers that bring relief from the scorching heat to thunderstorms and flooding.

The weather department has forecast a normal monsoon for the year and a good monsoon will help mitigate the impact of drought, boost agricultural output and raise spending and consumption.
